Care For Your Hair

Care For Your Hair

Whether you decided to stop gossiping or eating processed foods, our New Year’s resolutions can be HARD to keep.

Here’s a list of my New Year’s resolution with their statuses as failures or successes:

Be active everyday: FAIL

Eat a vegan and gluten-free diet: EPIC FAIL

Buy only thoughtfully made items: FAIL

Do not use any heated hair styling tools: PASS

Hold the phone! I passed! Well, so far…

Out of all the New Year’s resolutions I made for the beautiful year that is 2016, I’ve managed to keep only ONE. This resolution was a long time coming. Come children, let me take you on a journey to my middle school days- specifically, seventh grade.

Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera were among my idols growing up. What did they have in common? They all had gorgeous blond hair! I NEEDED to be like them in any way possible, so I begged, cried politely asked my mother if I could highlight my dishwater blond hair-that’s seriously the name of my natural hair color- a more vibrant blond. She obliged, so I cheerfully went to highlight my hair at the salon.

For the next 10 years, I was highlighting my locks. Throughout that time, I dyed my hair brown three times. I wasn’t a fan of the artificial colors of my hair. What was a girl to do!?

The answer: I decided to embrace my natural hair color. It took a little less than two years for my highlights to grow out- thank goodness ombre’s in style! I also cut my hair shoulder length to rid my hair of the remaining highlights.

In addition to saying bu-bye to highlights, I’ve also chosen to embrace the natural texture of my hair. Instead, I use moisturizing, mostly natural products to keep my hair shiny and soft.

My FAV hair products have become Mermaid Hair Shine Spray; Acure shampooconditioner, and dry shampoo; and Alaffia coconut oil. I use the Mermaid Hair Shine Spray after each time I wash my hair. Since I have dandruff (TMI I KNOW!), I wash my hair with the Acure shampoo and conditioner almost every day. If I happen to be super busy and don’t have time to wash my hair, then I’ll use Acure’s dry shampoo. Twice a week, I’ll work the Alaffia coconut oil into my scalp and hair and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Afterward, I’ll wash it out with the Acure shampoo and condition and style my hair as usual.

Hopefully, this is a New Year’s resolution I actually keep!
